Careers in Ireland

The Dublin financial services market is alive and well - so why not consider a stint in Ireland?  Since 1996, lreland and in particular Dublin, has seen extraordinary economic growth and inward investment. Its geographic location allows for good links with European, American and Far Eastern markets.

Coupled with its English-speaking culture and well-regulated insurance environment within an EU and Eurozone framework, the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) benefits from full Eurpean Union (EU) membership.

Given that Ireland is the only English-speaking, common-law jurisdiction in the Eurozone, it is a popular location for insurance, reinsurance and captives. For insurance companies, the IFSC's attraction as a European base above other locations is that companies can write insurance cover directly into all EU countries.

The IFSC is now a major contributor to the Irish economy and with more blue chip financial services companies as well as benefits consultancies, banks and asset management companies investing in Ireland, there are many new and exciting opportunities open to UK-trained insurance professionals.

Which employers are here?

Economic and financial growth in the late 1990s led to many international companies relocating to Ireland and Dublin's International Financial Services Centre is evidence of increasing inward investment. The IFSC is one of the fastest growing centres for collective investment fund management, and Dublin now ranks as as a leading world centre for international banking, corporate treasury and specialised insurance activities.

You will have the chance to work on a wealthy and receptive client base - both personal and corporate - with some of the major players in the market. There are some 30 life insurance and around 100 general insurers in the IFSC - household names such as Aon, AIG, HSBC, Norwich Union, Scottish Amicable, Zurich, Friends Provident, Chubb, Eagle Star and Irish Life.

Currently, Irish insurers offer excellent career development opportunities for technicians, brokers and consultants, as well as senior managers and executives. Positions are available in the assurance, insurance, asset management, private banking and employee benefits sectors, with international and local employers.

  • Maximise your skills and potential in a stimulating and dynamic working environment
