Construction Rugby 7’s

Sunday May 20th 2007 witnessed the fourth staging of Construction Rugby 7s at the Richmond Athletic Association Ground in London. Sponsored by Hays Construction and Building, the event provided an opportunity for some of the industry’s biggest names to battle it out for the prestigious Cup. Construction Rugby 7s is one of a series of sporting events that raises money for the Lighthouse Club, the construction industry charity.
Sixteen teams took part, with group matches deciding the team strengths. The KHK team were the ultimate cup winners, with a 24-7 points victory over Capita Symonds in the final. This was a good match, with the winners looking comfortable once they opened up a gap. This contrasted to an extremely close semi final, when KHK narrowly beat a very strong Clancy Docwra team 28-24.
In the plate competition, Bellway who had travelled all the way from Scotland to take part, were determined to get their hands on some silverware to take back across the Border. They hit form in the semi finals and beat a combined EC Harris/Taylor Woodrow team 19-0, but eventually finished as runner up against Cass Business School, who took the Plate trophy.
Tim Cook, managing director of Hays Construction, says: “We are pleased to sponsor this event which encourages informal networking and provides a great day out. There were some strong players and the good weather helped to build spectator numbers.”
