Being in the IT industry, you are likely not a stranger to the concept of the intrapreneur. Quite a few leading technology companies have incorporated an intrapreneurship program in some way but not everyone is up to speed yet. There are some challenges to incorporating it into your organization but the positives are hard to ignore. If you aren’t already, here’s why you should nurture an intrapreneurial spirit in your staff.

1.    It offers good ideas a better chance of succeeding.
With the high rate of failed start-ups, this allows your employees to develop their imaginative abilities risk-free, while at the same time allowing your business to identify new areas of growth. This type of environment innovation can thrive.

2.    It can improve retention and attraction.
When you give your employees the freedom to explore their own ideas, they are more likely to stay with the business and also become a more engaged employee. Additionally, you’ll find that the word will get out that you allow your staff to explore which attracts new staff.

3.    Your staff will feel empowered.
The ability to take their ideas and try to make them work will give your employees both a sense of accomplishment but also a sense that they influence the company. Your staff will feel like they are more than just a number, they’ll feel like a contributor.

4.    It improves innovation.
If you leave your staff to their own devices they’ll be able to think outside the box. For an IT company, this is especially helpful because you’ll get ideas that may not have been considered before.

5.    It’s the future.
The IT industry is agile and creative and companies that wish to survive and thrive must consider ways to encourage innovation in the future. The intrapreneur will be the new employee in the IT world so it’s a good idea to get on top of incorporating this now instead of later.
